How to choose a Cardo
The first decision is mesh or Bluetooth. Cardo’s mesh units (the Packtalk range) use Dynamic Mesh Communication, which keeps a group connected as riders change order or drop out of range and rejoin automatically. The Freecom and Spirit units use Bluetooth only, which is cheaper and fine for a rider and passenger or a pair of riders.
- Group rides, best all-rounder: Packtalk Edge. Mesh, JBL sound, voice commands and a magnetic mount that makes it easy to move between helmets.
- Group rides with crash detection: Packtalk Pro. Everything in the Edge plus automatic crash detection that can alert your emergency contacts.
- Mesh on a smaller budget: Packtalk Neo. Cardo mesh and JBL audio for less, with fewer premium extras.
- Rider and passenger: Freecom 4X or 2X. Bluetooth intercom with JBL speakers; the 4X links more riders and the 2X is the simpler two-person option.
- Cheapest way into Cardo: Spirit HD. A basic Bluetooth headset for music, navigation and calls, with intercom for one other rider.
Riding with Sena or other brands
Cardo mesh and Sena mesh do not talk to each other. If your group mixes brands, one rider can connect to another brand over standard Bluetooth intercom, but you lose the self-healing mesh link for that rider. If most of your friends already ride with one brand, buying the same brand is the simplest choice. Our Cardo vs Sena guide and mixed-group picks go into the details.
Before you buy, check that the speakers fit your helmet’s ear pockets and that the mount suits your shell. Our helmet speaker guide covers upgrades, and the Cardo comparison chart lists range, talk time and features for every current model.
